The Organising Committee Pride Uganda 2016 is excited and proud to unveil the dates for the fifth Pride in Uganda, 2nd – 7th August 2016. This year’s PRIDE will be a five day long event with a series of activities running under the theme “Standing Together! Ffena wamu! Sisi Pamoja! Twese Kumwe”.
During these two days, a total of seventeen contestants took part in the auditions, twelve on the Miss Pride ticket and five on the Mr Pride ticket. All the Mr Pride competitors made it through to the final. Out of the twelve that auditioned in the hope to eventually be crowned the 2016 Miss Pride, seven made it to the finals and five were relegated.
For many MSM, Uganda’s HIV epidemic brings with it significant social burdens. A pervading social stigma and high levels of homophobic violence caused by enduring conservative attitudes, result in MSM feeling less inclined to access HIV services. Only 44% of MSM living with HIV have ever been tested for the virus and know their results according to some surveys

I freedom Uganda Network (IFU) will be launching their digital resource center where members from the LGBTI and sex work communities will be accessing internet in a secure and free way. The initiative will be the first of its kind in Uganda.
Finally after staying close to five months in Luzira prison, Kim and Rihanna were released marking the beginning of their turbulent lives outside of the prison walls. Kim came back to begin life all over again, he had no home, business or even friends. Kim says that he once slept in old wrecked vehicles in parking yards since he had nowhere to go.
Jamal was apportioned a huge piece of land by his parents and decided to use it to the benefit of her fellow transgender women. Through mobilization, she was able to coordinate other Ugandan transgender women to till the land. On the farm, they planted groundnuts that they are currently harvesting; they planted beans which are also ready for harvest, scattered matooke stems and piggery. They also plan to start planting grapes on the farm to cut down the costs of raw materials used in their wine making business.
To show their love and support during this hard time, the Ugandan LGBTI community held a vigil on 18/6/2016 at the Chapter Four office premises. Despite the heavy down pour, the event organized by Kuchu Times Media Group, saw a number of LGBTI identifying persons and allies of the community come together to pay their respects to the innocent souls that were lost in the tragic shooting.
