David Kato Posthumously Given Inaugural Paul Cottingham Trust Award

Fallen Ugandan LGBTQ activist David Kato was on 31st January 2019,  given the first ever Paul Cottingham Trust Award for his work and effort towards bettering the lives of LGBTQ Ugandans. The award which was received by Sexual Minorities Uganda’s Executive Director Dr. Frank Mugisha was handed over by Micheal Cashman at the Kaleidoscope Trust dinner.

FEM ALLIANCE Launches Report on Intimate Partner Violence

The project was birthed after the realization that the existing interventions and research data exclude and deliberately sideline LBQT persons due to already existing societal homophobia and fear. The findings also revealed that people only understand Intimate Partner Violence(IPV) in the heteronormative context thus leaving a gap within the gender and sexual minorities and the misconception that IPV doesn’t occur in same sex relationships/ partnerships especially within LBQ/ WSW women is undeniable.

SEXUAL OFFENCES BILL 2015 PETITION: AN ANALYSIS OF ITS EFFECT ON FEMALE SEX WORKERS, LESBIANS, BISEXUAL AND TRANSGENDER WOMEN AND OTHER MARGINALIZED GROUPS OF PEOPLE IN UGANDA

The continued criminalization of same-sex relations, sex work among others is contradictory with the attempts to end sexual violence in Uganda. The law needs to take into the account of the reality of all Ugandans. Basing a new law on old draconian laws is both exclusionary and goes against progressive human rights trends that focus on consent and agency in regards to sexuality.

ANTI GAY POLITICIAN APPLAUDED FOR SLAMMING LGBT ISSUES AS PARLIAMENTARIANS FUEL PRESSURE TO RETABLE ANTI HOMOSEXUAITY LAW

While several parliamentarians emphasized that homosexuality is not a human right but a sickness, the Bufumbira East MP, Nsaba Buturo who moved the motion to applaud Kadaga insisted that parliament should persuade the government to deal firmly with NGO entities that support LGBT rights in Uganda.
