In an effort to show support for LGBTIQ people, Sebastian Vettel who finished second at the Hungarian Grand Prix donned a rainbow colored mask and t-shirt.
“Really proud of Sebastian Vettel for wearing the rainbow mask in Hungary Grand Prix in support of the LGBTQI community. Sport is politics and politics is sport.” Says Bisi Alimi a Human Rights Defender.
According to reports, although he was reprimanded, Sebastian Vettel said he would do it again.
Hungary is currently in the process of carrying out a homophobic referendum that would prohibit teaching or mention of LGBTIQ issues to children in school.
Sebastian Vettel’s move comes after the We Race As One Campaign was launched by Formula 1 last year in a bid to counter challenges that come with global inequalities.
