Freedom and Roam Uganda is currently seeking Expressions of Interest for a board member for the position of membership representative. We are looking for individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences who are interested in helping us fulfil our mission of “to strengthen and mobilise visibility and collective organising power of LBQ women in order to change the norms, institutions, policies and practices that perpetuate inequality homophobia, hetero normativity and violence in both the public and private arenas”. We are actively looking to fill one board position while building a list of qualified candidates for future openings.
We are looking for a candidate who has experience in the following priority skill areas;
- Believe and support promotion of the rights of LBQ women
- Not working with organizations with the same interests and objectives as Freedom and Roam Uganda.
- Having areas of expertize they bring on board will be an added advantage.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Responsibility
- Board members are responsible for the effective governance of the organisation consistent with its vision, mission, strategic direction and adherence to its core values.
- Board members have no authority to act individual in the direction of staff and volunteers or to act as spokesperson for the organisation unless specifically given such authority by the board.
Qualifications
We are seeking a boarding member that;
- Is an LBQ woman
- Is a member of Freedom And Roam Uganda
- Has knowledge of and interest in fighting for the rights of LBQ women.
- Have a basic understanding of human rights as well as women’s rights.
- Are open to learning.
- Has the ability to work as part of a team.
General duties
Each member of the board is expected to do the following;
- Prepare for meetings by reading agendas, minutes, reports and other documentation required to actively participate in meetings.
- Work as a team member and support board decisions.
- Represent the membership voice, suggestions and submissions to the BOD.
- Develop, amend and approve bylaws and governing policies outlining key financial staff/personnel and board practice as necessary.
- Monitor the performance of the organisation.
- Actively participate in the board’s annual evaluation and planning efforts.
- Getting to know and staying informed about the programming activities of the organisation.
Commitment
- Attending in person board meetings.
- Participation on board committees.
- Understand and monitor the organizations fundraising strategy.
- Report any potential conflicts of interests.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Ensure the organisation is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in the recruitment of new board members.
- Keep up to date with the issues and trends that affect the organization.
