Nicholas Opiyo , one of Uganda’s most profound human rights lawyers and the Executive Director of Chapter Four Uganda, will today receive the prestigious German Africa Award for his exceptional effort and dedication towards defending rule of law and political liberty in Uganda.
Opiyo was awarded the prestigious accolade in May this year and is currently in Berlin where it will be handed to him by the German Federal President Walter Steinmeier..
The German Africa Award, bestowed by the German Africa Foundation, honors outstanding personalities that have made an exceptional contribution to democracy, civil rights, rule of law and culture on the African continent. Last year’s laureate was South African Public Protector Thulisile Madonsela, who received the award from the President of the German Parliament, Norbert Lammert.
The celebrated lawyer took to his official twitter account this morning to express his gratitude to his team at Chapter Four.” I will today receive the German Africa Prize 2017 from the German Federal President Frank Walter Steinmeier here in Berlin.
